Course Overview

This qualification is designed for highly skilled senior operators who combine extensive hospitality expertise with managerial capabilities and in-depth industry knowledge to oversee and coordinate hospitality operations. Individuals in this role work autonomously, manage others, and make a variety of operational and business decisions.

It provides a pathway to employment across all sectors of the hospitality industry as a departmental manager or small business manager. Potential employers include restaurants, hotels, motels, catering services, clubs, pubs, cafés, and coffee shops. The qualification supports multiskilling and the development of specialized skills in areas such as accommodation services, cookery, food and beverage, and gaming.

All skills acquired through this qualification must be applied in compliance with Commonwealth and State/Territory legislation, Australian standards, and relevant industry codes of practice.

All students must be at least 18 years old at the time of course application.

English Proficiency Requirement

Students must demonstrate a suitable level of written and spoken English for effective participation in the course. English skills are assessed through a Pre-Training Review during enrolment.

Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) Assessment

All students are required to complete an LLND ( Language,Literacy,Numeracy & Digital Literacy) assessment prior to course commencement. Read in detail below.

Language,Literacy,Numeracy & Digital Literacy (LLND) Assessment Details

All students are required to complete an LLND ( Language,Literacy,Numeracy & Digital Literacy) assessment prior to course commencement. The assessment identifies any additional support required to successfully complete the course.

  • The LLND assessment is mapped to ACSF Level 5 for this qualification.
  • Students must achieve the expected level of performance.
  • If a student does not meet the required LLND level, they will be offered further support, including an ACSF Support Plan or referral to external Language, Literacy, and Numeracy training.

SIT50422 Diploma of Hospitality Management comprises of 28 units of competency. GTA have organised these units of competency in a way that is most effective for the learner and will provide them with a logical learning sequence. This results in an efficient delivery of training and assessment.

To be issued the qualification SIT50422 Diploma of Hospitality Management a learner must be assessed as competent in all 28 units. These units of competency are comprised of 11 core and 17 elective units.

Assessment Marking System
  • Satisfactory (S) Result:
    The student’s submitted work meets the learning requirements and all competency standards for the unit, in accordance with the National Register.

  • Not Yet Satisfactory (NYS) Result:
    The student’s submitted work does not demonstrate full understanding of all competency standards for the unit. If a student receives a Not Yet Satisfactory outcome, they will receive written feedback from a trainer/assessor, clearly outlining the gaps. The student must then address these gaps and resubmit their assessment for evaluation.

     

    Once a student achieves a Satisfactory result for all required assessment tasks, a Competent (C) outcome will be awarded for the entire unit. The student must demonstrate understanding of all competency standards in each unit before a Competent outcome is granted.

National Recognition

These competencies are drawn from the nationally recognised Tourism, Travel and Hospitality Training Package (SIT). Upon successful completion of the training and assessment, you will be awarded the SIT50422 Diploma of Hospitality Management.

Along with your qualification certificate, a Record of Results (sometimes referred to as a transcript) listing all completed units of competency will also be provided. Both the qualification and the units of competency are nationally recognised, giving you a credential that is valid and respected throughout Australia.

GTA will issue your qualification within 30 days of completing the final assessment.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

Applicants may apply for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) for skills and knowledge relevant to the units of competency in this program. These skills and knowledge may have been gained through workplace training, professional experience, or other formal and informal learning, and can potentially reduce the number of units required to complete the program.

Students are encouraged to inform GTA of their interest in applying for RPL before enrolment. A pre-training review questionnaire will be provided to gather information about your prior experience. This information helps us determine the most suitable pathway for you to achieve competency.

Student Information

Detailed information for students is provided in our Student Handbook, which is included in the enrolment package. This handbook contains important details about a student’s rights and responsibilities, including:

  • Right to privacy
  • Right to a safe training environment
  • Right to lodge a complaint or appeal an assessment decision
  • Meeting course progress requirements
  • Maintaining appropriate student behaviour

It is essential that anyone applying for enrolment reviews this information before submitting their application.

Award

Upon meeting all requirements, learners will be awarded the SIT50422 Diploma of Hospitality Management, issued within 30 days of completing the qualification.

Learners who complete individual units but do not complete the full qualification will receive a Statement of Attainment, detailing the units they have successfully completed.

Cooling Off Period

Students may cancel their enrolment by submitting a formal notice in writing (letter or email) to the CEO within 10 business days of enrolment. No cancellation fee will apply, provided the student has not yet commenced training.

Unique Student Identifier (USI)

All participants enrolling in a course must have a Unique Student Identifier (USI) to receive their certificate or qualification for nationally recognised training in Australia.

A USI provides access to your online USI account, which keeps all your training records in one place. Certificates and Statements of Attainment cannot be issued without a USI.

Complaints and Appeal Process

If a student has a complaint regarding GTA’s policies, procedures, staff, fellow students, assessments, marking, or learning resources, they can obtain a complaint form from the GTA reception and submit it as soon as possible for prompt action.

Career Pathways and Further Study

Individuals who complete these qualifications will gain the skills to work in industry as departmental, operational, or small business managers.

After achieving the SIT50422 Diploma of Hospitality Management, students may progress to a range of Advanced Diploma-level qualifications within the SIT – Tourism, Travel and Hospitality Training Package (Release 2.0) or other training packages. Students may also receive credit for common units of competency in these advanced qualifications.
